Almetyevsk. Cozy and beautiful, it has taken all the best from megacities and has kept the uniqueness of small towns.

Its history dates back to the 18th century. According to legends, in 1719, Mullah Al-Mohammed, the ruler of one of the Bulgarian tribes, a descendant of the Khan Bikchury, founded a settlement in the place where today's Almetyevsk stands today. The most famous document, which has a mention of this settlement, is a letter written by Mullah Al-Muhammad to Colonel I.N. Tatishchev, dated June 24, 1735.

At the beginning of the 20th century in the village of Almetyevo there were already more than 500 households. After the revolution of 1917 and the civil war, the village, in which the Stalin collective farm No. 1 was organized in 1930, became a district center.

The event, which determined the fate of Almetyevo, occurred during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The Shugurovskoye oil field was discovered in the region. The era of exploration of the subsoil began, a working settlement was built near Almetyevo, and on November 3, 1953, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, Almetyevsk was given the status of a city.

Today, Almetyevsk is one of the most comfortable cities in Russia to live in with a developed economy and infrastructure. The flagship of the economy of the Republic of Tatarstan is PJSC Tatneft, with its headquarters located in Almetyevsk. It is the largest enterprise in the oil and gas industry of the country. The “black gold” gave birth to the oil capital of Tatarstan and the “big oil” determined the development of Almetyevsk and the region as a whole.

As of today, the Almetyevsk region and the city of Almetyevsk have leading positions in Tatarstan in many respects. Mining and processing of mineral deposits, production and maintenance of oil equipment, geological exploration occupy the main share in the overall structure of the economy. The largest oil and gas companies operating in the city are TATNEFT’s Almetyevneft, Elkhovneft, Yamashneft, and Tatneftegazpererabotka, service enterprises of TagraS-Holding LLC, and some small oil companies. JSC Almetyevsk Pipe Plant, OJSC Alnas, LLC Baulux, OJSC Radiopribor Almetyevsk Plant, OJSC Almetyevsk Hosiery Factory and many others make a significant contribution to the economy of the district. The small and medium business segment is also actively developing.

In Almetyevsk, there is everything that a modern person can dream of – the city offers comfortable conditions for living, studying and relaxing. Due to the close cooperation of the municipality and the management of PJSC TATNEFT, the tasks of building and overhauling the infrastructure of the city are being successfully solved. Significant investments are made in health care, education, culture, and other social spheres.

Almetyevsk is becoming more and more beautiful everyday: new public spaces, parks, squares, and fountains appear. Over the past few years, thanks to the Republican programs and the support of PJSC TATNEFT, Shamsinur Park, Literary Court, Yashlek Square, a playground on the Cascade of Ponds, etc. were built. The city beach became a real decoration of Almetyevsk. An area for active recreation has been built for residents and guests of the oil town: a wake park, a climbing wall, a rope park, fitness ground, a volleyball court, an open-air water complex with a swimming pool, a sauna, and a children's water playground with a spray park, children's playgrounds and recreation areas, a cafe with summer terraces, rental of boats and catamarans – all of it can be found here.

In the city, road construction is underway. The overhaul of highways, as well as intra-quarter territories, is carried out annually. Almetyevsk became the first city in Russia with a developed bicycle infrastructure, it is rightly called the bicycle capital of the country. Dozens of kilometers of cycling lanes have been built; special traffic lights, urns, bicycles boxes have been installed; the corresponding marking has been made. Thousands of citizens moved onto a two-wheeled vehicle, taking care of their health, the environment, saving on gasoline and other expenses for a car. Bikesharing, an innovative system of renting bicycles through a mobile phone application without fixed stations, has been also introduced in the city.

Caring for the younger generation is a strategic task for the city leaders. All conditions have been created for the young people of Almetyevsk so that they could have access to high-quality education, highly qualified medical assistance, and could develop their creative potential. Every year, as part of the Republican programs, a major overhaul is carried out in preschool institutions and schools, and a children's clinic has received a new look. Along with the traditional centers for the development of children and adolescents, new ones are emerging, such as Quantorium, Image-Based Center of Information Technologies and Information Technology.

Almetyevsk is the center of attraction for innovation and high technology. For example, modern medical institutions (the Medical Unit of PJSC TATNEFT and the city of Almetyevsk, the oncologic dispensary, etc.) provide quality care to patients not only to the city dwellers but also to residents from the entire south-east of Tatarstan: they perform the most complex operations on the heart and other organs.

Almetyevsk occupies one of the leading places in the Republic due to the number of institutions of culture and art. A bright pearl of the city is the Park named after the 60th Anniversary of Tatarstan Oil, where cultural and entertainment events with the participation of popular artists of Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Bashkortostan, as well as performances of theater and dance groups of cities of our Republic are held during the summer season. The Tatar Drama Theater is also successfully functioning and delighting its audience.
